Dear Cavalier Community, Welcome May! I hope this message finds you well. Spring has sprung and with it comes the excitement of the last leg of the 2023-2024 school year! As your dedicated Superintendent, I remain grateful for the opportunity to work in partnership and serve the students, staff, families, and community of Carrollton Public Schools. I absolutely love being a Cavalier! May is Mental Health Awareness Month and my encouragement is for each of us to prioritize our mental well-being. By taking time to practice self-care, reach out for support when needed, and encourage our children to do the same, we become an example and erase the stigma associated with asking for help. At Carrollton Public Schools we have many professionals available to students when they need adult support. In addition to our teachers, administrators, counselors, and social workers, our mental health practitioner, and Health Resource Advocate, who have expertise in the areas of mental health and wellness, are available every day, for every school building. These dedicated school staff members also stand ready to support families with resources. We are here to help. Research tells us that focusing on mental health education can positively impact academic performance. In each building, students and staff participate in programs like Capturing Kids Hearts, Character Strong, and Wellness Wednesdays, to help promote a healthy learning environment. By helping students develop coping mechanisms for stress, improving focus and concentration, and supporting mental health needs, we create an environment that helps every student to succeed. As you consider ways to be involved in the school community this month, please save the date for these important May events: ● Today, Wednesday, May 8th, our last Community Forum for the 2023-2024 school year, will offer a platform for open dialogue about mental health. We will meet in the CMS cafeteria, from 5:30 - 7:00 pm. ● Monday, May 20th, the regular Board Meeting will present an opportunity for learning about what is happening in the school district and how decisions are made by our Board of Education. We will meet in the CHS library, at 6:30 pm. ● Thursday, May 23rd, the Omni High School Class of 2024 and the Carrollton High School Class of 2024 will have Commencement ceremonies in the CHS gym. Omni’s ceremony is at 4:00 pm and Carrollton High School’s ceremony is at 6:00 pm, respectively. I personally invite you to our last Community Forum for the 2023 - 2024 school year, that will focus on a topic that is important for us all: Mental Health. Join us as we discuss and address mental health and the resources available to students. Your participation and input remain crucial as we work together to create a secure and nurturing environment for everyone. Let’s continue #BuildingStrongerTogether. As always, I am available to you. I welcome the opportunity to meet, listen, and share ideas about ways to improve the whole child, whole family, and whole community experience for our students. Please feel free to contact me by phone at 989-754-1475, via email at tpeterson@gocavs.net, or a visit to central office by appointment. With Cavalier Pride, Tiffany L. Peterson, Ed.S.
